I bought this nice small IOW or Kerry Glass bowl from a seller who wanted to tell me it was by an Australian glass artist ( who by the way was the maker of the other piece of glass they were selling - and I confirmed that for them - suddenly this was his work too !!!!!! :pb: ).

I suspect it is an early piece of Kerry Glass despite the IOW flame.  The flame is only about 75% the size of a typical Kerry glass flame (eg. from my Shamrock bowl) so I am uncertain.

I would like a pattern name and an approximate date if someone can help.

It's Isle of Wight Studio Glass, "Tortoiseshell". This was not a design done at Kerry.

How big is the bowl Ross?

Tortoiseshell was made from 1973 until around 1982, so a very successful range. Yours, with a flame mark will be 1974 or later.

Quite small John.  c. 4" across and 3.5" tall.

Thanks to all for the prompt response.  I looked up Tortoise on the IOW website but the spiral in mine is very clear - their's was not so I was uncertain.

Fairly unusual a bowl in that shape, there is another more commonly found small bowl that bulges' slightly towards the base known as an elephants foot bowl: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyIsleOfWightStudioGlass#5538006808968087938

Eleven examples of tortoiseshell here: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyIsleOfWightStudioGlass#
Some can be much darker.

John my vase is the "Bell" shape (#27 of 38) shown.  I also got recently the pink & blue swirls Bell shape (#26 of 38) - both off Ebay.

Pink and blue swirls is much underrated IHMO, as is tortoiseshell.

Your bowl is the same shape but not the same size, the bell vases are usually around six inches tall and six in diameter (15cm), some are considerably larger again.

Actually got to measure it today.  My estimation was pretty good - 3" tall and 4" diameter - were the correct dimensions.
