I don't know if Ittala is still producing glass in Finland any more, either. There was certainly a golden period in which the quality of the design and the manufacture of glass from the Scandinavian was the finest in the world. The realities of the marketplace put gradual pressure to decrease hand work and increase industrialization in the process in the '70's and 80's and the market just bled away over time. Now we see some very nice glass from china at a fraction of the cost, but most of the designs of which are largely derivative and little of the work is actually done by hand, at least by the standards of Scandinavian glass in its prime.
