Alfredo Barbini Vase? Extra information about value/age?
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:03:39 PM »
Hello,

I have this vase. Could somebody give me some extra information about the age/value? Is it rare?
The vase is signed and 40 cm in height.

Thanks

Marcel

We normally can't say much about value (it's very subjective) and the idea of this forum is not to get a valuation, though we do welcome identification questions.

In this particular case however I can tell you that I saw one go on Ebay in the last two weeks for around 300 euro. Which means it's not unique, and that is the price level that people will be expecting to pay.

I don't know anything about Murano glass though, so I can't confirm the ID (but others may be able to help out there).

Ah, I found the link for you (hope it also works outside my personal list). This ebay seller also said it was marked Barbini (though if it's a modern fake and more of these were produced that doesn't mean anything). It went for 231 euro.

Do you have the sellers permission to use the photographs?

I saw the vase when it was listed on eBay and wondered at it. It looks very different from other works by Barbini, so I wondered if the signature was fake. I didn't know. The year 1949 would put Alfredo working at Cenedese. The vase would be very unusual for the time frame. This does not mean that it is not an unusual piece made by him, only that I do not recognize the style as his.

Have to add that the pictures are not really good enough to tell much about the vase. I was reminded of some of the contemporary bullet vases made in Europe.

Perhaps if you were to add some of your own photos taken against a plain white background, we might be able to help. Help with posting photos here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html
