Whilst catching up on my cataloguing tonight I have come across a Selkirk "Wizard's Eye  1977" pwt I bought when in England 5 years ago - and somehow missed taking photos of and thus cataloguing.

[correction date should be 1979, see reply #5 in the topic below]

I am wondering if it was a limited edition?  If so how many might have been made?  Who might have made it?

I intend to put up photos as soon as I can (weather permitting) so you can see what it looks like.  I was hoping someone has specialised in Selkirk Paperweights.

1977 Selkirk weights are few and far between.   It was I think 1977 when Peter Holmes left Caithness to set up with Ron Hutchison.

"Paperweights of Great Britain" lists Selkirk weights from 1978 onwards, but not 1977.

It would be really good to see the pix, incluidng any signature etc on the base.

I have never heard of a 1977 catalogue - but a "Merlin Sky - Wizard's Eye" shows up in the 1978 and 1979 catalogues. It was unlimited, original price $ 38.

As I have only very poor scans of these old catalogues (prior to 1986), I would very much appreciate if you could take some decent photographs and let us have them for ScotlandsGlass: there is very little online on Selkirk at the moment - but I am collecting images.

I have a vase, dated 1990. I'll get images when I've got the courage to try and tackle the camera again.
It's a flared bucket shape, with pink and blue splodges.

Selkirk is my speciality with something like 100 weights (used to be more) by them, mostly by Peter Holmes.

Peter says they started making weights in October 1977 and I've never seen one.  It's a holy grail for me, one of the missing links, so love to see pictures.

If you're thinking of selling it please do let me know, I would be very interested!

1978 was the first catalogue, I have a pdf of it somewhere....

regards
Ian

First of all - abject apologies the date is 1979 - blame it on old eyes - I did not notice the curved top of the 9 and the lower part of the loop is quite faint.  I will be putting up 6 photos of it plus another two of the other Selkirk pwt I have for Ian if it is useful.

Hi Ross,
I cannot find the second weight in my catalogues: have you got a name and year of issue/production?
Second question >:D
May we use your images for ScotlandsGlass?

Wolf, I bought the second weight in August 2002 off Ebay in the UK.  Nothing else known about it.

I am happy for you to use the photos - if you would like the originals simply email me direct and tell me where to send them.
