I was browsing at a Toronto-area outdoor antique market this past weekend and acquired what I'm pretty sure is a Bo Borgstrom design for Aseda ... the vase on the right in this picture. No sticker, but it certainly looks 'right' to me ... nice age wear on the polished base, and good weight to it. Pretty much identical in size to my other blue one.

My question is about the colour ... that eye-catching bright cobalt blue. I've seen these in navy blue, red, green, amber/yellow and purple, but never a cobalt blue one. Is this a rare colour? It certainly is here in Toronto, at any rate! I know Aseda made other designs in cobalt blue, but I've never seen one of these in this colour before.

I'd be interested to learn what the experts here have to think about this one. Even though it has a couple of small pinhead-size chips on one of the knobs, I thought it was worth bringing home!

Cheers,

Rob

Although I haven't seen one in this blue, it looks good to me. Some of the colours are brighter than others; I wonder if they are later models.

Hello Rob.

These vases are NOT designed by Bo B. They were already in production before Bo was hired as designer at Aseda glassworks. They originate from another designer Borne Augustsson and his vase namned Bornevase.
In my documentation the vases of this shape have been numbered 5/100.
All designs made by Bo B has a capital B before the number but this is missing in my original documentation. I do hope that this will help You a little.

And congrats to a very nice buying.

Thank, Swedishmom, for that interesting info! I'd never heard that anyone else but Bo B was credited with this design, but hunting through this message board last night I found some of your other posts on Borne Augustsson, including one with this attached catalogue page on these vases.

Of interest, I note that there are 4 colours listed as original ... I presume blue, green, amber/yellow and red. As you speculated, David, it could be that the other colours (purple, and my cobalt blue) came later in the production run.

Thanks both for your expertise!

Rob
