Signed Harris Mdina Globe Vase
« on: June 04, 2011, 01:10:34 PM »
Sorry, first posting for ages and ages, havent been quite as active in my collecting for a while,
ive almost forgotten how to post photos , so practising on this lovely piece of signed Harris work that i
happened across recently . Its one of the nicest pieces ive seen ! Had to fork out a whopping £50  for it  ;D
Its a whopper 6 1/2 inches tall, 7 inches wide.

Hope everyone is well, just going to buy a new laptop, so hope to be more active in the future, got a few
ids to post later.

Cheers all
Andy

Nice to see you around again Andy, I've been a bit scarce too but popping in more frequently now.

Lovely Japanese Globe, jammy so and so!   :smg:  Well done.

Very nice one. Most Japanese Globes are signed by Michael Harris - I think it was a sort of (reluctant on Mr. Harris' part) experiment to see if they sold better if signed.

Point of interest, have you noticed the pattern on the globe is produced using a technique much like that of Fish vases? - just with the shape being round and the wing bits marvered in and cased.  :smg:

I have two - one similar to yours, and another, with a slightly flared button rim, but very, very bubbly in the yellow parts. :smg:

But John  :P  has a flat one, it's fabulous and stunning and gorgeous and the only one I know of.... :grrr:  :grrr:

And he's got an AMETHYST on yellow globe.  :grrr:  :grrr:  :grrr:  :grrr:
the only one I know of.

(John has some stunning bits - don't you, John?  :kissy: hope you don't mind me teasing a little.  :-[)

Oooh  I missed this thread, the globe shape is one of my favourites. I am still looking for a nice blue Japanese example, seen a few (unsigned) but they were too expensive for me.

Tease away Sue, I'll be wearing my safety hat :vkg:

Here's that flattened globe (it has a tendency to want to fall over.....): http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,32132.0.html

and here the amethyst: http://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5484548837927530450
