I bought this in Seattle recently becasue it appealed to me and seemed vaguely familiar, as much of the world does these days (emphasis on the vague). I had thought Czech or perhaps Murano. A friend suggested Chribska or one the descendant companies but I can't find anything on Jindrich's web site that looks like it. Then I put it next to a labelled example of a Mstisov "Rhapsody" piece and the blue and salmon match exactly. The base is well finished, chamfered, and has some age. It weights 1.9 kg, and is 13" tall and 6" at its widest point.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for looking.

Emmi:

Thanks. That was the thread a friend had told me about and I couldn't locate. Interesting that we both considered "Rhapsody."

I looked through the 1999 Chribska catalogue very carefully, especially the pictures on pp. 124, 143, and 147. (If I've missed the obvious one, please let me know.)  I'm not yet convinced that my piece (or Emmi's for that matter) is pictured in there. Several reasons:  first, the colours in mine are far more muted (they really do match the early "Rhapsody" pieces I have, see attachment); second, none of the pieces in the catalogue have a notch in the clear onto which the coloured lenses are applied (see attached photo); third, the shape isn't quite there.

I'm not saying it's not Chribska, early or late, just that I don't see it in the Chribska catalogue.  In fact, whatever it is, I like it quite a lot, and for that reason I want to identify it.

I've been going through catalogues connected to Chribska and I still haven't found a piece with a notch in the clear as in the vase above. The notch indicates to me that it was a more complex piece to make than many of the modern Chribska pieces. Has anyone else seen  Chribska piece made like this?  I guess I'm concerned that I'm just missing the the obvious (Chribska) that everyone else is seeing.

Difficult isn't it..... I don't think you are missing anything, it's just that none of us know for sure.

Thanks, John. I've emailed Moser to see if they can identify it.

An id!

Veronika from Moser has replied and said that the the vase was produced by Karlovarske Sklo between 1967 and 1985, a result I'm more than pleased about.

A good result David, your hunch on colours paid off! I am surprised Moser identified it as Karlovarske Sklo production. It looks like a new attribution, replacing the Chribska verdict, well done,

The 1968/1 CGR has got pieces with a two-colour design, though I can't decide if they are more similar to yours, David, or to Emmi's.  Maybe they're similar to neither. :spls:   See here:  http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/Glasrevue19681?authkey=Gv1sRgCOPs3dTCxo7_qAE#5444326449812939362
