Ok - if I forget to do it when Alan has posted his pics and info for the St Mande (with acute accent on the "e", of course), someone please remind me to split all this stuff to different threads. :)

Hi Kev

I tried my usual CTRL-ALT-0233 code for the e with acute accent, but it just deleted the post I was typing. Is there a way to generate characters with diacritics on this board?

Good question, Alan.

I know that Bernard C. has, in the past, given some information on this, but I keep forgetting where that was. And because I can never remember the ALT codes, I normally use Symbols characters cut and pasted from a documented. But ...

I am not sure if Operating System & Browser Type have an effect, but trying the basics as shown in "Accented Marks and Diacriticals" in such as this starr.net page, I found that ALT + <code> works for me ...

ALT + 0224 = à ALT + 0225 = á ALT + 0226 = â ALT + 0227 = ã ALT + 0228 = ä ALT + 0229 = å ALT + 0230 = æ ALT + 0231 = ç ALT + 0232 = è ALT + 0233 = é ALT + 0234 = ê ALT + 0235 = ë ALT + 0236 = ì ALT + 0237 = í ALT + 0238 = î ALT 0239 = ï ... and so on.

Must remember to suggest that this, or something similar, is added to the Board Help and Guidelines. Or maybe there is an easier way? I will check with Anne, our resident Tech Wizard:)

Hi Kevin

I think the Alzheimer's was having an effect earlier. I don't know why I was putting the CTRL in the sequence, as I normally would just use ALT+0233 to get é, so that I could spell St. Mandé properly. And that, of course, works fine...

I think it would be useful to have this somewhere on the Board.

Finally, my St Mandé weight has arrived. Here is a top view. Diameter 2 7/8 inch, height 1 7/8 inch. It has some typical St Mandé canes, an unusual centre cane, and a ring of stardust canes very like those of other French makers such as Baccarat and Saint-Louis (so beware using stardust canes for ID purposes....).
