Would this be a Richard Price piece ?
« on: March 18, 2019, 01:57:22 PM »
Hi

I like this piece on e bay at the moment, it is listed as Siddy Langley 1996. Navaho design. It is an unusual piece

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-Rare-Siddy-Langley-Glass-Iridescent-Navaho/123695259599

Would this piece of glass been a Richard Price ? I have read that he was doing pieces of glass around this time at Siddy Langley studio.

Any help would be much appreciated
Louise

Where did you read that?

I do not know about Siddy Langley's work or the work of other people at her studio. But why would Siddy Langley sign the work of somebody else?

Hi Kevin

Thank you for your reply, it was a thread on here that I read started by Beasoriginals ref Siddy Langley paperweight. dated 2017.

I was just asking as the piece I was interested in was dated 1996 and fell into the dates in the message below. Part copy of thread below.

Mystery solved! Siddy Langley just emailed this reply

This was made in my Maidenhead Studio which I left to move to Devon in 1997. I used to sign my own work Siddy Langley and the date. When I was pregnant in 1992 I took on someone called Richard Price who would make things to my design. To start with anything he made to my design was signed Alchemy Glass so that people knew I had designed it, it was made in my studio but had not been made by my own (fair!) hand. However, there was a reluctance from the Galleries to stock work which didn’t have the Siddy Langley name on it so I compromised and still signed work physically made by me Siddy Langley but pieces made (to my design) by others was signed Siddy Langley Glass, the makers initials and the date. RP on this piece refers to Richard Price. He joined me in 1992 and stayed on until my Maidenhead studio closed in 1997.

Thank you
Louise

Good info. :D

The eBay seller seems to be offering the blue bowl, but has used the yellow/orange one for the signature photo and that shows no "Glass" or "Maker's initials".

In Siddy's email response to you, she has said "... RP on this piece  ...". Hmmm. Has the seller removed a photo of the blue bowl signature?
