signed afors 3045 red bowl
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:07:12 AM »
I am new to this and not sure how to post pics. I bought a signed red bowl and was told it was Murano. I then showed pics and talked to the Murano specialist and was told no, it was not, it was an Afors, the letters tend to say they are right, can someone please help me identify it and what it's value could be? thanks tons

Highly probable that it's an Afors, not Murano. I'm not too up on Afors prices, but I suspect that it depends very much on the designer of the piece. It's likely to be higher if designed by Ernest Gordon or Bertil Vallien, who designed for Afors before it became part of the Kosta Boda group.  Usually the designer would have his name or initials on a piece he or she designed for Afors.

It's a nice piece. I collect both Scandinavian and Murano, and I wouldn't be at all disappointed that this isn't Murano, unless you paid a very high price for it.

Hope this helps a little.

On the base I can see Afors and 4 digit number.  Could you please spend the time to get a good photo of the full base.  The engraved writing ought to stand out more if you simply rub a small amount of talc into the groves and wipe off the excess.  Many of us have collected for some time and they may have catalogs or recognise signatures - one of the great benefits of the site.

I don't think you will find out much more about it. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information about Afors unless it's about one their more famous designers, Ernest Gordon or Bertil Vallien. My take on your piece is that it's an OK little piece but there's not a lot to distinguish it. Certainly I don't see the hand of a great designer in it.  If you want an opinion re value, $55 seems more than a little high. Here's a marked Afors piece I have that I paid much less for.

I was really putting this pic up for Ross. I appreciate your thinking my piece is "ok" I think it it beautiful and quite nicely done. I will try to find out more about it from a person who has alot more information, but thanks. I think your piece is "ok" as well. I don't feel I overpaid either, it is a unique piece regardless.
Cheers

Cindyann:

My apologies. I didn't intend to offend you. Perhaps in future if you ask "anyone" for information you could make it clear who you're asking asking and what type of info you want.
