Hovmantorp / Hovmantorps / Mantorp
« on: June 18, 2011, 08:17:38 PM »
Seen various threads referencing Hovmantorp (No S)

1. Has any one seen Hovmantorps (Probably US trade mark in use for Swedish Crystal in 1951)?

2. Was there a Hovmantorps glassworks?

3. Is Mantorp related in any way and how long have Mantorp existed?

Questions arisen from a thread on cellophane glass http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,28047.0.html - Suggestion of Mantorp as a possible maker.

Hovmantorp New Glasscompany was started in 1905. The name reveals that there had been predecessors. It also implies that the new company had an ambition to be like the original glasscompany, the first on location, started in 1860. That facility was closed after a  big  fire in 1878.
The new company came to an end in 1978.

A couple of items is attached.
And note: I'm absolutely no expert of  but maybe this can help i a minor way

Hello again.

Mantorp glassworks is situated in the county of Ostergotland between Mjolby and Linkoping.
Hovmantorp glassworks was situated in the county of Smaland, in what is called the glassregion of Sweden. The nearest town
would be Vaxjo.

So they are two different glassworks and there are many miles between the two locations.
Best regards

I don't think Frank was asking about Hovmantorp. His first two questions were relating to Hovmantorps - with an "s" at the end.

You may safely assume that Hovmantorps Glashytta in Hovmantorp is one factory, with an S or without an S.

Thanks, lots of clarity. Only thing left is date established for Mantorps Glassworks, they seem to have been around at least since the 80s but their website gives the impression they are the new kids on the block! But to be contender for my interest they need to be at least 1950s preferably 20 years earlier...

Would do, but struggling and not succeeding to keep up with huge daily e-mail flow as it is, thought someone here might just know... keep it it all in one place.

Would Hovmantorps have had their own US office in 50s, don't seem too likely unless they were huge then? My data just suggests it was US trademark, again on the list for chasing up maybe one day  ;)
