possible additions for 'Marks & Labels' site.
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:46:56 PM »
Two labels from this mornings walk  -  on the first piece, I think the missing word is supposed to read 'HOFBAUER COLLECTION' (correct me if I'm wrong) - Echt Bleikristall, manufacturers from W. Germany......and this is on a rose bowl in pressed glass.    On the underside of the grill is stamped........'MAYELL  EP ON ZINC - MADE IN ENGLAND'.

The second piece is a very 'kitsch/tacky' tumbler carrying a label from a marketing company - 'WITTIG Hadamar'  - in a Bavarian town called Oberammergau - it's written on the tumbler - and famous for the Passion Play and woodcarving, apparently   -      I didn't see either in the German section of labels, but if they are there and I missed them, apologies and please delete this note. :)

http://www.kristallglas-oberursel.net/Text/Wittig.html
contains some info on Ernst Wittig, coming from Haida to Oberursel. During the 1950ies he moved to Hadamar, where he seems to have been involved in the early days of the Glasfachschule.
So Ernst Wittig (or rather his company) was actually making this item, not just selling it, and it was not made in Oberammergau, but just for the tourists visiting this place.

thanks for the corrections  -  this was some while back, and I forget precisely the source of my information, although no doubt I thought it correct at the time :)
