« on: June 27, 2011, 03:47:38 PM »
Hello , this vase has an acid etch mark on the base that I am wondering if it will help date the vase . I have read that this blue colour was started in the 1980 , but I cannot find info on the marking . Any help would be great , with thanks .

Hi - I have the same in green:

I read on here - somewhere - that an acid mark denotes the last decade or so.  I'm not sure how accurate that is though.

This site gives some indication of when this acid etched mark was used.

There is another link here:

that might help with dating.

According to Mark Hill, blue Marguerites were introduced in 1992. The shade of blue can vary.

The mark is sand-blasted not acid etched. Good to learn the difference as it can help dating pieces as post circa 1970.

Firstly the use of a stencil and secondly the texture of fine pitting as opposed to the smooth frosting of acid etching.

Not sure about Great-Glass's dates there, I can only remember seeing this mark on later production, never on anything from the late 60s into the 70s.
