Orrefors Lindstrand Artemis
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:28:08 PM »
I have just bought the vase below and I am trying to decipher the marks on the base.  Ignore the shape the camera has distorted it it is more cylindrical than it appears.

The first part is easy - Orrefors Lindstrand 2696 DV.P

It is the DV.P I need help on.

The vase was designed 1941 - 1944.

DV shoud be D and a number - D1 1962, D2 63 etc (year of manufacture)
P is the engraver - unfortunately P stands for Olof Petersson, who was active 1925-30
There is a PL Peter Lindhal 43 - 65, SP Sten Petersson 22 - 69, RP Rune Petterson 45-90, Sp Stefan Petersson 77 - now, and a lot with R
ciold it be one of these ?

I have checked the signature again and it could read

orrefors lindstrand 2696 . D /. P   or    . D 1. P

The P can be seen in the photo above (as can the D but not as clearly) and I have tried to see the D as anything else but cannot the V could be a slash or a 1 with a scratch mark as the thickness of the second line is not the same as the the other marks  .

Hello

The copper wheel design is from 1941 by Vicke Lindstrand on a vase form originally designed by Simon Gate number 2001.

It is a production piece and the other initals and numbers relate to the engravers who did the work.

In the 1940's there were a large number of copper wheel engravers working at the glassworks and I do not think it is important to get over excited about the other numbers.
