« on: July 17, 2011, 06:45:59 PM »
Small Orrefors vase - 4.25" high in clear glass with engraved flower decoration to front - base has marks (see photo) J.F.P. 1794. 1/1 J.N - J could be an I?

Any info ref this piece or the marks welcomed

Thanks Adam

To me the marks look as follows Adam
FP 2796 111 SN

I thought all Orrefors was marked as Orrefors - is it marked elsewhere on the base as Orrefors or is that the only marking?

It isn't marked Orrefors - It was sold to me by a collector as Orrefors - I am now doubting it is re the communications on this post - If that is the case, what is it and is it Scandinavian?

Your list of options is considerable. It includes VSL, Lenox, Sea, Johansfors, Lindshammer, Strathearn, and a dozen independent engravers in the Swedish provinces.

I think that it is Orrefors.  The "J" is probably "of = Orrefors".  Sometimes the whole name is used sometime the abbreviation - see the two attached phots of the bases of two Palmquist vases I own - note particularly the way the second is similar to yours.   The P= Palmquist unlimited production.  2746 will be the basic pattern number and the 131(?) a sub pattern for the particular flower pattern used.  SN may be the engraver's initials - Alistair Duncans Ofrrefors Glass book does not list an SN but we need Daniel to tell us for sure.
