Heavy Sommerso faceted vase , Murano or Czech perhaps
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:07:41 PM »
A nice modern quality Sommerso vase, i actually treated myself to at the Birmingham Glass fair, last year, neither i nor the seller are sure of its origins. He thought Murano, i thought maybe Czech, which he said a few others had suspected as well. Its fairly recent. Over 2kg, 8 inches tall. Round ,but cut and polished on 4 sides. All nicely done with beviled edges, and a hole in the bottom.
Any ideas??  I also have a modern bottle which could have come from the same factory, which i will show in a seperate post.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

Just looking at the pics, my first thoughts were Czech, not sure how old though, may be relatively recent in date...

Just a speculative guess, might be worth looking at some Vizner designs..? may be well of the mark, somewhere to start...

Greg

Andy,

Think your on the right track...have a look at the Beranek Glassworks website, under product catalogue/vases, although not the same, there's some similar designs....

Andy you may have found this information already but if not, there is some further comments and info on this thread about Princ glass.

Hi there.  I was trawling through images looking for my ashtray and found this link.  I don't read anything other than English so I have no idea what it says but the vase looks so similar in style to yours that I had to write.

Thanks all,
i know i cant totally rule out the far east, but i feel the quality is just so much better. I see Prinz make some interesting pieces, and some very close copies of Beranek and others, including Exbor. I did handle a piece of Prinz once, and wasnt that impressed, although other pieces may be better quality.
poppyparker, very interesting, i worked out a little from that picture, which was a sale by a Scandinavian collector, and i found the catalogue , its a piece by Willy Johansson of Hadeland, Norway ,
https://www.blomqvist.no/Klassisk-auksjon/DAG-FROELANDS-SAMLING-2011/Katalog/(offset)/70

I'd like to think thats nearer to the quality of mine, but would imagine most Scandinavian stuff is signed. Just in case i will have a good look at Hadeland, may get lucky ;D
 Cheers and Thanks,
Andy
