Peter Layton and Norman S Clarke

Hello Jak,

I just wanted to get in touch regarding your query about the Peter Layton glass piece as we help look after his PR.

Peter has confirmed that the signature is indeed his, which is on the perfume bottle that he designed.  It was then made by Norman S Clarke which explains why there are two signatures.

Peter said that you are very lucky to have a piece signed by the two of them as it is pretty unusual!

I hope this clears up any mystery surrounding your glassware.

 :hi:
I was wondering if you would be able to tell us when Peter Layton stopped making the glass himself and designed only - or has he actually stopped making himself?
And surely, if all his work is now design, and made by other artists, both artist's signatures should be on each piece?

To a collector, it is important to know the name of the maker as well as the designer, and if a piece could be confirmed to have actually been made by him, it would possibly command a price premium. (I don't know for sure.)

I do have a piece of Peter's work, signed by him, but it's only since I acquired it I have discovered he doesn't make it himself any more - so I don't know who made my piece. I find this very unsatisfactory indeed.  :tsk:

Thanks for your attention.
