This is particularly for David - You have my permission to save off these photographs from our trip to the Green Cape Lighthouse, should you ever wish to illustrate something.

Note: these are from hubby dear's lovely expensive camera, rather than my rapidly dying one. Why do people treat (what was then an) $800 camera as disposable?

First pic is mine, second I think is hubby's, third is mine (you can tell because I managed to cut the top off the lighthouse.

Many thanks, Cathy. These really are stunning photos! The centre one is particualr really catches the reflection and refraction superbly. Pat on the back for Hubby! 8)

Incidentally, I read somewhere that the power of the bulb used in most lighthouses is a mere 300 watts or so! The whole thing relies on the lenses to create such high power, and it means the bulbs have incredible longevity.

Can anyone confirm this?

Fabulous pictures Cathy :P  8)

The middle one (top section) - screams Goodden's Spider web pattern for Chance!

I'll be off to Cornwall again in a couple of weeks visiting family.  Will try to take some pics. of lighthouse lenses if poss.

Apparently the inspiration for Spiderweb came from lighthouse optics :)

Anne, Lizard Point was another of their lighthouses!

David - as promised, some pics. of the Lizard Lighthouse.  Unfortunately it was closed to the general public, so the photos had to be taken from the perimeter wall - some distance away, which was very disappointing.  However, I will be heading down that way again in May, so hopefully it will be open and I can get nearer to take some close ups of the lens.

And great pics they are too! What a pity it wasn't open though - can't they work 365 days a year like me!

In fact the distance one does look quite atmospheric (but can you move round a little to the left... :D)

I also look forward to seeing the Chance Glass piccies too
