Mushroom Paperweight (#1) Blue-ish
« on: August 19, 2011, 07:45:43 AM »
 :hi: there:

Okay, here I go over to the Paperweight section.....at least I think this is a PW.

A lady here in Canada (from the UK) was selling some of her glass PW since she had bought them with her 3 years ago.  I wanted them, and when I heard her British Accent -- I knew that you folks here would be able to help we out with the items I am not sure of.

Anyways, the first item here is a Blue-ish Mushroom.  I see no marks (and this time I remember to look on the side too, not just the bottom).  I have no idea who made it.  If i were to guess (Mdina ???) but aren't they always signed?  So if anyone can help me with the maker, and the date of this item -- I would be most grateful.

I have a few items to post because I bought all 6 items she was selling  ;D    ;D.......  But I will not post them all tonight    :24:

Looks like it might be Wedgwood to me. If it's not, look at Teign Valley Glass. I don't think the PW people think of mushrooms as paperweights though.

I'd agree it does look Wedgwoody -  >:D and as a Mushroom collector, I agree wholeheartedly that they're not paperweights!

I really don't think it is Wedgwood Rose....might be worth looking at TVG or Avondale....they all had similar styles and colours ....TVG tended to etch a mark on the base,  but Avondale only used labels, that proud housewives promptly removed, or they came off in the wash!

And Wedgwood tends to be marked - unless it's a second.
I'd also expect blue speckly bits as well as green in Wedgwood.

TVG isn't always marked and my marked TVG pear is a blue and green mix. Perhaps Avondale would be the best starting point

Whoops Sorry -- I thought a Mushroom was a Paperweight?  What do I know  :spls2:  :pb:

I guess the 3rd Mushroom I will post over in the Glass Section.....and if the MOD want to alter the title (and move) these to the glass section -- that is Ok with me for my mistake calling it a PW.

So they are just Mushrooms then as objects (decorative) not PW ??

Sorry  :ooh: ................but I do have 3 other glass items that are *Real PW* that I have Yet to post

No need to get your knickers in a twist, Rose!
It's really up to the collector to decide what it is.
If a pwt collector wants a mushroom, they might decide it's a pwt so they can have it.
I don't want pwts, but I do want mushrooms, so to me they're not pwts.

That one's a paperweight, Rose!

There's a Special Section in paperweights for "John Ditchfield and Heron Glass mushrooms".

(getting my own back on you for making me look at a pink thing..... :P )
