Hi all

Here is a most unusual vase made to look just like wood.  It has glass dots down the front and two rows down the sides.  There is a mark on the bottom in the photograph but I can't work it out.

I'm in California and it's selling from Orange County (which has a history of wealthy people) and I can't make up my mind whether to bid as it's not my thing really but is so very unusual.

The base looks like is really is wood.

11inches tall and 7 wide.

Any ideas!   :sun:

I'm having a little wonder if it might be related to/be something along the lines of Lithalyn glass?

(I want to put some talc in that name!)

I see what you mean, Sue, I will Google and see what comes up.  I know what you mean about the signature,  I'll try and blow it up somehow.

Sorry Sue, very little resemblance to lithyalin glass.

Are they your photos Poppy? If not there are copyright issues.

Interesting looking vase (that I know nothing about).

Hmmmm, it's thick and monumental, it's opaque and it's made up of what looks as if it could be different colours of glass swirled together..... and that sort of describes lithalyn to me - but it describes malachite and chalcedony types of glass too, which aren't lithalyn either.

I was just suggesting some sort of starting point.......  :pb:

Thanks Sue - and if it isn't Lythialin glass, you have certainly introduced me to a new and fascinating type of glass!   :kissy:

It would help if I could spell it... it's Lithyalin.

According to my encyclopedia (Sotheby's Concise) it can also be known as agate glass (which is what I called chalcedony) - and the only two images I have of it (in 2 encyclopedias) do look a bit like this - all sort of marbled mixed up colours........

Have you got any good images of something which can be definitely called Lithyalin glass, John?

John

You are buying this, so the photos are not yours.....They might have to be removed like John said.   :wsh:

Yes, John and Rose are right to point out a possible copyright issue.

Poppyparker, could you please confirm the situation regarding your photos.

The policy of the Board on copyright allows links to photos that are not owned by the poster. It is ok to post a copy of an image if permission is given - and stated in the GMB posting.

That's fine.  I don't mind at all if it's removed.  The pictures say "goodwill.com" on them which I suppose is always good advertising for them.

I really wanted to know what this interesting vase was and there was no other way of describing it.
