Chunky Amber glass bowl ID help please Chribska ?
« on: August 20, 2011, 07:20:36 AM »
Hi,

My mother has just purchased this lovely chunky & heavy Amber glass bowl - it looks similar to Czech Chribska designs to me ? I don't have any dimensions but it has a polished base, no pontil ?  Anyone have any ideas ??

Thanks

Novasonic

I'm sure this is Czech but I think it's up in in the air whether it's Chribska, Skrdlovice, or, a little less likely, Harrachov.  I think your piece is the little sibling of the one below, which has a Czech export label on it.  I lean towards Skrldovice, but I'll defer to bOBA and Jindrich, if they have an opinion.

Your mother has good taste.

Looking at the base i feel its Sklo Czech. Rosice and Hermanova Hut is worth researching.

My first gut feeling upon seeing the lobed style base was Chribska, but I can't offer anything more solid than that, I'm afraid.

It's definitely Sklo, because that just mean glass. It's not Rosice or Hermanova Hut, as they both made pressed glass and this isn't pressed, though it might be moulded.

The amber bowl may be Czech, but it resembles these which I bought years ago in crystal, amber & blue. Top diameters were 4", 5" & 6". My DD has 4 of the 6" amber ones & two of those have a blue & silver "Hand Made In Sweden" label.

Interesting, Ken. I haven't seen these before, and they do look similar. It would interesting to see a top shot of Novasonic's mum's piece.  I think I'll stick with Czech, but not Sklo Union, though.

Hi

thanks for all your comments,  I have to say the bowl most resembles the pics posted by Ohio - here is a top shot photo,  if it is Swedish any ideas of a factory ?

Many Thanks for your comments
