Powell or Walsh vaseline of the nicest kind - but what is it - a lamp shade?

Hi there,
It's a vase, sort of like a top hat with a pulled in rim. The opal is trailed over the top & it sits on 6 swirls which surround a polished pontil. I sawit from halfway across the field at a bootfair on Weds - you should have seen me move, elbows sharpened. The woman only wanted £5 for 3 items, so this cost the princely sum of £1.66 ^-^

I own several pieces of John Walsh Walsh in vaseline/uranium opalescent, and not one of mine are marked.  I do have a later piece (1930's) that is not opalescent, and it has a faint etch mark on the bottom.  I don't think the early stuff was marked for the most part.  I have seen photos of a couple of pieces that had an original factory Rd. number hand-scribed on the underside of the piece.  They are ultra-rare though.

I agree with the other posting......If I had only Powell or JWW to choose from, I would go with JWW, but there are lots and lots of other makers who also made patterned vaseline opalescent blown ware.  (p.s.  I like this vase a lot!)

I no longer have this little uranium Walsh glass, but it was marked.

Book:
The Glass of John Walsh Walsh  1850-1951 by Eric Reynolds.

The first part is history and pictures, the second part is all the available factory pattern books.
I got mine from Broadfield House Glass Museum for 20 pounds.
