please help identify this 1970s (?) glass vase
« on: August 26, 2011, 09:18:41 PM »
I love this piece.

It's 33cm high.

body looks pressed -  seems to have seams up the sides like 2 halves have been put together.

handles appear to have been added after.

Hi Scavo!  Could you take a base shot of your glass that you put up?

I recognize the vase, but I can't think of who. It is a very common piece. Empoli? Need help remembering.

photo of the base to help with ID

maybe that fact there is quite a bit of soap residue on the inside may help?

Anita me too!!
I've searched Ekenas, Elme etc thinking it was one of the Scandinavian houses, but finally suddenly thought 'aha, Empoli'.  I'm about to look up 'basket weave' as I'm sure something like this has been on here before.

this is the one I was thinking of
I think Ivo's one if I remember, was like yours.
The labelled one referred to was opalina if I recall correctly, cased glass with a white interior (pic gone) and was labelled Opalina Fiorentina.  There has been some discussion about  this label as 'Opalina' being on the label may refer to the cased versions with white interiors but not the see through ones, and I can't remember whether others have found labels that just say Fiorentina or something, if they aren't made of cased glass.  Sorry, my explanation is a little confusing but I do know what I mean... I think :-\
Doesn't help with total id of your vase but I think it is safe to say it is Italian
 :)

well, yes. that looks a lot like it, without the handles and a mad colour. but shape and basket weave is very similar.

Fiorentina ...
no worries, I follow you.
It's Italian (pleased about that). Fiorentina: it's good to have a name. I like the piece as it is big and very atypical.
Thanks everyone.
