Archimede Seguso? Duck
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:31:27 PM »
I ran across this signed duck on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310341599724#ht_3318wt_1048. The duck and signature do not look right to me. I've never seen an A. Seguso duck with the legs stuck on like this. The style of the signature is 1970-80s, but A. Seguso didn't make this type glass then. Looking closely, the shape of the letters do not look right for his company, especially that curvy, plump S in Seguso. Thought I would get other people's opinion of this little duck.

hi Anita
I've compared the signature with the one I have on my ram.
There are several discrepancies, all three words.
that alone would steer me clear, oh and the price.

Did seguso ever apply feet like this with that ribbed effet seperating the "toes" ?

All done and said I don't like it, interesting though  :chky:

Your ram is great, Martin. It's a 70-80s piece, so the signature is right at home for the date. I don't remember seeing any A. Seguso sommerso animals from this time. Mainly just massello and remakes of his earlier transparent, bianco nero, and alabastro animals. I'm glad that you don't like it, either. With the feet on the side like that, one little nudge and the duck would topple over.

I thought that about the feet too,
almost as if it was an after thought to put them on,

"hey we got a pair of feet left over what shall we do ?"

I saw this duck for sale a few months ago....I didn't think it was 'signed' then.
Maybe this is one to watch?????????? >:D

The signature and the piece appears to be too sloppy for A. Seguso, IMHO. :wsh:

I checked some of his other pieces. This donkey looks like a generic version of a Cenedese donkey: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310341601129#ht_3947wt_1048. It is signed A. Bourbini. I'm not familiar with this artist. I thought maybe it was supposed to be Barbini, but I know Alfredo Barbini didn't make this piece, and if they had, it wouldn't have been signed.

There was one of these on Antiques Master the other night:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEGUSO-SOMMERSO-FLASK-STOPPER-CIRCA-1960s-21-TALL-/310341598387 - they didn't say who it was by, but I've always thought they were Flavio Poli. Am I wrong?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd
