For Astrid (and for reference): Riedel vase
« on: August 25, 2011, 04:24:57 PM »
I would like to show this vase because of its quite extraordinary features:

lead crystal, coarse "battuto" cut lower part, upper part satinated, tiny oval cut lenses covering the whole piece (not sure about the order of these working steps though)

Has the "CJR" (Claus Joseph Riedel) acid stamp to the base, so it should originate from the 1960s or 1970s.
Could have been designed by C.J. Riedel himself as he designed most of the pieces during that period (and bears some similarities to his confirmed designs).

And must be a rarer piece, as it isn't in Dusan's web gallery of his vast Riedel collection...

I tried my best, but the pics don't really do it justice.

Thanks for looking!
Michael

The cut ovals are fascinating -- much like the cutting in artisan wood sculptures.  Very nice. (I know I'm not Astrid. Sorry for sticking my nose here. :-[)

Thanks, Anik! :)
I didn't show it exclusively for Astrid, so comments from anybody more than welcome!

I do like the mix of different techniques in this piece very much...

Ooooh, very pretty - and thanks very much for showing it! I really like the structure of the piece. I don't have anything Riedel in my collection yet (well, not that I know of, maybe I have put one as unknown German by mistake...) Took me a bit longer than I thought to have a peek, sorry about that!

Astrid

Glad you like it, Astrid! :)
(I had thought so with your faible for Peill etc.)

All Riedel glass I have seen so far was marked, so I guess there isn't any hidden in your fabulous German glass collection...

Michael
