Zelezny Brod vase with different label
« on: August 31, 2011, 02:15:29 PM »
Hi Guys

I found this vase at the weekend and think the design and colour are fab. Its 8 inches high in a turquoise colour. It is quite heavy and it has leaf like indentations down both sides which are frosted. It also has a groove down both sides which isnt frosted (sorry my description is not good - I hope the photos are clear). I dont know much about czech glass but I assume from the label it is by Zelezny Brod. However the label is different to the other labels I have seen on the net. Does anyone know who designed it and what sort of age it would be?

Many thanks for looking

Ashley :)

Hello Ashley,

Unfortuantely I can't tell you anything about the label, but your vase was designed by Vaclav Horacek in 1957 for Josefodol, pattern VS 8464.  Josefodol was restructured into ZBS.  See this thread for more information: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,29542.0.html

I've got one as well: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,37841.0.html

It looks like a pretty early label to me, 60's.

I have one in yellow. It's one of my favourite ZBS pieces, actually, the structure catches the light quite beatifully.

Thanks Astrid - I agree, its a really well designed piece and has a quality feel about it. I will definitely be looking out for other pieces by this designer.

Hi friends,
here are few pieces designed by Vaclav Horacek I have been able to find so far. I am browsing resources about this designer.
