Any ideas about this 'IAN 1953' glass paperweight please?
« on: January 28, 2015, 03:41:57 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about this unusual glass paperweight. It's about 2.5"/6.5cm in diameter with a rough pontil mark and has what looks to me like lampworked 'IAN 1953' in it. My first thought was that it's homemade, but I'd be very interested to hear other opinions.

Many thanks in aniticpation, John. 8)

Looks like the sort of thing turned out at the Pilkington Glass Museum/World of Glass, though I suggest the date is a birthday rather than the production date. That bluish glass and the colours are typical. A common form is a crocussy thing. This sort of thing is pretty common round where I live - about 8 miles away

Thank you so much once again Christine ~ that would certainly explain it! Now all I need to do is find someone by the name of Ian who was born in 1953...
