Cute PWt - Three Little Pigs - Any ideas on maker
« on: September 08, 2011, 12:14:22 PM »
I picked this up off Ebay.  There is fairly average work with the encasing of the pigs - lots of bubbles.  The base seems to be better finished than I expected and I wondered if anyone can give me an idea of the maker.  Looks like a beginners effort - but the pigs themselves are quite well made.

I have a strong feeling that it is Chinese: the pigs are quite like some Chinese ones that I have seen. The base is well made, as you say, but there are a few Chinese around with similar bases. That said, there may well be an alternative attribution.

Hi, still looking for the wolf who blew the houses down and had a couple of pork pie dinners.
Anyway, take a look at  James Mackay's Glass paperweights book page 88 and there is the three pig weight by Philip Bunamo at Union Glass about 1910./////// Unfortunately your three pig weight seems to be the chinese weight inspired by it.   Shame, but not a bad weight is it ?  I keep a few chinese weights myself because some makers are much better than the average. Regards Roger.
