Hi Cazza

Yes you are correct it is crown weight and
was made in Murano Venice. Modern weights
from Murano do not have a signature cane
but this probably would have originally had a
label. This is a nice one as the area where
the  staves join at the top of the crown is
concealed with millefiori canes.

I don't know who the specific maker was as
there are specialist cane makers in Murano
who just make millefiori canes and sell them
to other glassmakers who make the millefiori
objects. Datewise I suspect 1960's or 70's.

There are others more knowledgable on Murano
weights on the board who may be able to give
you a better estimate of date and maker from
the general style.

Best regards

Derek

Hi Cazza

The Murano crowns are often hollow - looking
at the pictures there sems to be a hint of this.

Also Murano weights are made from soda-lime
glass not the much denser lead crystal.

Best regards

Thank you for your admiration of my paperweight, was still wondering if anyone has any idea of a maker.

It is not easy to tie unlabelled Murano paperweights to specific makers, but it might be Fratelli Toso.  Check out the canes and design against some of the examples on the Murano Project on my website (link under my signature).
