Sold to me as Czech (whatever it is I had to have it anyway) and measures a whopping 35cm tall, no base marks and is smooth.

Modern Chinese (or other mass producer), these have been available very recently in TK Maxx. Very effective design.

It was a month or two ago and I don't remember but would guess it would have been twenty or thirty quid.

Is there no chance this vase could be Karlovarské Sklo?

I have written to TK Maxx and they said that TK Maxx are too big a company with too many suppliers of short runs to confirm or deny that it was purchased from one or any of their outlets.

I could be wrong, cos I don't have my glass books, but I don't recall any Czech items with a crenellated top like this.

Really, there's a big style conflict going on with this vase, what with the top rim being cut and the sticky-outy sharp pulled bits...plus the size.  I would expect a Czech vase to be more cohesive in style.  Although it feels a bit dangerous without seeing this item, I'd go with it being modern.  If it was an old piece, then I would expect a whole lot of wear on the base...does it have that?  :)

I am not a man

You are right Max, the base is not marked by age although the inside is stained a little. I think I find it hard that somebody could buy such a beautiful piece so recently and cast it out so soon, ah well, philistines will be philistine I suppose.
