Topic: Pressed glass pin dishes or powder bowl with fish design - ID = VLG, Germany

I think one of these has been on the board before but I can't find it now. I am not sure whether I have two pin dishes or a powder bowl (one has much more wear on the underside than the other). If used as a powder bowl there is no rim to stop them from sliding apart.

They are quite small, each is a little less than 9cm in diameter and 2 cm tall. The design is on the outside and frosted, the insides are smooth and clear.

Any information or speculation would be most welcome.

Blue and pink? I bet there are green ones out there somewhere too.

Looking again at these, I don't think I am looking at wear on the one but I think the high points have been ground down so that it does not wobble about. Which makes me think they may be a covered bowl, perhaps whatever they held would have stopped the lid from sliding off.

There is a green one on ebay, item no 200673791067.

This green pair is smaller, 7.4 and 7.5 cm so the same size as Bernard's. I was surprised to see them glow with UV, one is brighter than the other but neither match the vase.

The detail shows up really well under U.V.

These fish dishes have now been identified! They're German, made by VLG. A larger covered bowl in this design is shown in their 1939 catalogue (Nr. 1942, p.105):

Excellent Steven (and Pamela), thank you very much for pointing that out.

I see they are described in the catalogue as 'round powder or cream shell', assuming Google translate is vaguely accurate. Diameter is given as 7.5 cm.

I wonder if they were sold to the public as they are or would they have contained a cosmetic product at point of sale? The latter I would guess.
