Signed "Webb"
« on: September 23, 2011, 11:58:51 AM »
Would like to know a little more about this vase. Bought in Michigan last year. I think the maker is Thomas Webb and it is called "Coraline". Other than that all I can find is a piece on Ebay that is somewhat different.

This has to be one of my favorite pieces.

How is it made, is it old, etc..?

Thanks,
Tony

That is a stunning piece Tony,  I don't collect vases but I would certainly find house room for that one......hope you get some answers on what it is. Does the 'coral' pattern look more like little beads applied to the surface?

Yes and thank you...I always enjoy looking at this one but am careful not to touch too often for fear of damaging the little glass beads.

Glass beads were 'glued' on with enamel and fired so probably reasonably safe for handling. I would have thought the enamel was brushed and then covered in beads - process must be described in Hajdamach's first book, which is not to hand right now.

Definitely Thomas Webb & Sons and coralene over satin air trap. Late 19th century/early 20th. Well done

Quality always shines through, Tony,  I liked this one the moment I saw it...Coralene eh?  I must look out for a piece of that. Truly lovely.
