Orrefors signature?
« on: October 05, 2011, 01:11:41 PM »
Hi can someone confirm this is in fact an Orrefors signature.

This is the vase....

Research of the signature brought up 1956 Sven Palmqvist but this was disputed when I listed it last week even went on to dispute it was in fact Orrefors at all?
So a little expert help required, thought I was doing so well on my own too  :-[

Thanks Chris

I can see why it might be questioned, it does not say "Orrefors" and it does not quite look like "Of" either which you sometimes find. I wonder if it is a blank engraved by a 'freelance' engraver?

Interesting John, I thought the of was okay the P for Palmqvist just got a bit lost with the  date codes on a couple of sites, plus there are also codes for the type of glass, depending on which sets of numbers are the date codes I came up with 1940s or 1950s and a throbbing headache.
Looking at the details of the person who emailed 5 minutes before the auction ended to tell me it wasn't and said I would like to make an offer of £15 to be honest from what they were buying and selling nothing led me to believe they knew much more than I did about it.

Is so like yours it would be difficult to believe that yours was not Orrefors Chris....IMHO.

Just thinking out loud Chris. Orrefors numbering is notoriously difficult to decipher...

I would have been a little suspicious of an email like that too.

So to digress this is what I come up with so far...
of =Orrefors  P = Sven Palmqvist   2686 = the model number   B83 = the year made and the 2 letters g R ? = the engraver
I think  :o

I suspect XXX refers to the initials of the engraver.  Perhaps though it refers to the particular way it is engraved.  We need Daniel S to give you a real expert opinion.

Yes indeed, I used XXX to refer to the remaining digits which I can't make out in your photos.
