It is a vase lamp, all OK, good chance it has part of original insert at the top. Bit unfortunate that someone later found it to plain and 'dolled' it up a bit - but it should be easy to remove the gunk.

Really must remember to hit post  ::) so maybe not original fitting at top! I have seen that shape with original lamp fitting too.

The blue and pink Monart vase has had two things done to it.

Firstly, its been 'lamped', ie. drilled and plugged to take a bulb holder. Secondly, it was fashionable at one time to add pewter decoration to glass, ceramics and wooden boxes, etc. The problem with this is that it is not always just the removal of the pewter and glue, because often the edges of the pewter have been scored into the surface (possible being cut onto that surface?), so leaving scratches, sometimes deep.

The green piece appears wrong, as is the lattice one pointed out by Sue.

Green bit is Czech too, I reckon - not necessarily the same maker as the combed and mica'd bit - that maker hasn't been tracked down yet, have they?

Thanks Nigel, that was very interesting to learn about the pewter inclusion. I couldn't work out what it was from the image. Thanks, again!

Oh that one. It is reminiscent of plate 89 in Ysart Glass... but not the same and it could be an OK piece of Monart. Shape is problematic but could be the elusive AK, guess it would need handling.

Frank, Lot 1007, I have concerns about, and would be happier if I was able to handle it.

PS. Just realised that I hadn't turned the page to the next two entries ::)

The green vase in Taylors Auction Rooms (auction due on 15/10/11) was sold at Bonhams Chester sale on 16/8/11. Also most of the Monart and Nazeing in the Bonhams sale (which I believe all sold) have reappeared at this Taylors auction with very similar estimates. I don't understand this - maybe someone can enlighten me.

Most of the other Monart for sale at Taylors auction were sold at Bonham's (Edinburgh) Scottish Sale on the 16/09/11 and I believe bought by one dealer. The esitmates at Taylors auction are similar to what the dealer paid at Bonhams (Edinburgh).
