Strange finish on Monart vase
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:16:28 AM »
Has anyone seen this type of finish on a Monart vase. Tried to put a link for it but just comes up as "server error". The sale is at Eastbourne Auction Rooms
Fine Art, Antiques & Collectables - Thursday 27th October 2011 to Friday 28th October 2011Eastbourne Auction Rooms lot 1434.

What does it look like?

I reckon simply not Monart.
Scroll down a bit and you'll see one of the combed-with-mica Czech vases, also listed as Monart.

Perhaps Lot 1434 in the Eastbourne auction simply has a wrong photo - there is no label to the base as suggested in the description and I suspect the vase shown could be ceramic not glass. Looks like a set of holes in the base!

But is that the base?
Which way up should it be? Some of the pics are upside down, if the blue is at the base.............

It is the top of the vase that has the holes in it, the base has a Monart Glass label, which has a shape code LD and a colour 42B, can not read size code. The shape code and the colour code IMHO look right to me. You will have to scroll down on web page to see label

duh - I didn't see there was another pic! I know very little about labels - does this one look thumb smudged?

And is the top of the thing closed over with holes in it?

It's worth looking at the auctioneer's condition report - that'll explain a bit more.

It took some tracking down!

This is the report.

"The vase has been drilled to the side at the bottom for lamp base use, there is a glued in wooden plug to the opening of the vase and some pewter flowers have been glued onto the vase body."

It's a glue-job.
