I've gone quackers! Murano duck 1. Cenedese Antonio da Ros
« on: October 12, 2011, 12:40:45 PM »
I've gone quackers for Murano ducks!

first up  ;D
Cenedese Antonio da Ros turquoise with red bloodspot. Labeled
Approx 5 inches or 13 cm tall

Doesn't seem to have a lot of base wear.
Does anyone have any idea when this would have been made?

thanks
JAK

That looks like a wonderful duck for the zoo. (Beg, plead) I am not sure it is a Da Ros design, even though it has the spot in the middle. I'm not sure, but Cenedese may have put these in some of their other designs, too.

About the age -- does the label have a paper backing or is it totally metal foil?

Svazzo has a uranium duck like yours at www.ebay.com/itm/Murano-CENEDESE-Vaseline-YELLOW-Duck-Figurine-2-Labels-Uranium-Glass-GLOWS-/120777784796 . He also attributes the design to Da Ros. So please ignore my questioning of the design.

Hi Anita

Without risking loosening the label I think it is metal foil - not paper. - does that mean later rather than earlier?

I will happily send you photos for the Zoo - will email separately better quality photos.

The Da Ros attribution was again from Design and Arts

<<Antonio da Ros, Cenedese Vetri Murano um 1960
Schöne Figur einer stehenden Ente
Türkisfarbenes Klarglas. Eingeschmolzenen große Luftblase und rote Unterfänge
Höhe ca. 12,5 cm
Durchmesser / Länge ca. 7,5 cm
Signiert / Gemarkt: Gemarkt mit Manufaktur Label
Signed / Marked: Marked with manufactory label
Zustand: Sehr gut
Condition: Very good >>

I had to buy two ducks from them to justify the freight cost! At least that is my excuse!

(Your other post just arrived as I was trying to post this - so Da Ros for sure then  ;D)

jakgene, our messages crossed. I found one offered by Svazzo that also had the Da Ros attribution. The paper backed shield label was used in the 1950s into the 1960s. The thicker metal label was introduced in the 1980s. I don't know how long it was used. It can be hard to tell them apart without harming the label. To me the two types of labels look different, but it is hard to see in a picture.

I just checked my "heart" elephant pictures and saw it had a shield label coupled with a paper label that was used in the mid 1960-early 1970s. So I'll bet your duck was made in the same general time slot -- the 60s. Cenedese sometimes couples labels like this. It is nice for detective work.
