Bagley "Rutland" pattern.
« on: April 14, 2017, 08:08:38 AM »
Good morning and Happy Easter to everyone.

Does anyone know if Bagley made any tableware in their "Rutland" pattern?

I've seen an oval fruit bowl with the same opposed "heart" shape pattern on the centre of the base with texturing to the side panels.  It has four scrolled feet, lobed rim with the spiral pattern repeated on the corners of the lobes and is about 10 inches x 6 inches.  I've seen trinket sets in this pattern but never anything else.

Can't attach a picture as it's still in the shop!  But hope someone can tell me if it's Bagley or not.
Thanks.

Didn't want to risk missing it for my Bagley collection, if it is Bagley, so went back and bought it.  Have attached some photos and would appreciate any info. whether it is really "Rutland" or a copy by someone else.  Thankyou.

Gosh! It does look like the Rutland pattern, doesn't it? But I have been all through the Bagley Glass book (Bowey, Parsons and Parsons) and there is no mention of a bowl in Rutland at all. Just the trinket set and a flower set, which doesn't have a bowl either. I'll drop Angela Bowey a line and ask if she's aware of this pattern though.

I've not heard back from her as she's been travelling, but she should land back shortly and I'll follow it up again with her for you.

I've checked with Angela and she says it isn't Bagley Rutland. She also mentioned that the Rutland-like motif was used by various glassmakers so it could be tricky to pin down.

You might find a match in one of the pressed glass catalogues on Pamela Wessendorf's  www.glas-musterbuch.de - it's worth a look.
