Topic: Could someone Please CZECH this out?? Splatter...

Hope someone can help me with this one?   Have some other posts unanswered from a few days ago....

I bought this today at a Collectible sale here in town.  Think it is Czech/Bohemian with a Metal frog in it.  No marks on the bottom.  No marks on the Metal froggie thing either.  Polished rim on the glass....about 5 inches tall and about 5 inches wide.

Is it called Splatter, or end-of-day, or Tango?  Any ideas on the maker, and the year?

Those are pretty colours Rose.  Here it is referred to as a 'splatter' vase mostly, 'end of day' I think is a myth.  I don't think there is much way of telling who did these - sometimes the colour combination or shape can tie in with other knowns and then some can be id'd though.  I would also say it is  Czechoslovakian probably rather than Bohemian or Czech (open to correction though), although I'm sure I have read that some of these have/are being produced more recently (again open to correction and I wouldn't know where they are being produced, so that could include the Czech Republic I suppose).

Just a quick bit of advice before you start searching often called spatter vases too which will give you more search options.

Why didn't they put any type of Marks on that Frog thing?  I mean really ........  :ho:

Here are a couple more pics, not sure it that helps any extra -- or the pattern of the Metal frog ??  but throwing it out there.  After all the only way I can tell you info is by more pics....and in an Internet word, I guess a Pic is worth a 1000 words.  Since everything is Visual here..... LOL

I think perhaps that style of grid with the wire mesh rather than punched metal might put it at perhaps 1940s/1950s but it's not new.

It's a lovely example with attractive colour / SPATTER. If selling, please don't use 'splatter', it's such an ugly word for a pretty item. I'm fairly sure 1930s but it's almost impossible to be 100% certain. The grid looks as if it's in good condition and they're often very tarnished / damaged.

May I ask a question?  If this dates to older than 1993 prior to the split to the Czech Republic and Slovakia,  then I would refer to it as Czechoslovakian.  If it dated post the advent of the Czech Republic I would refer to it as Czech.  I think there is a difference.  Is that correct?

Interesting fact that I (for one) should *watch* out for.  I tend to use the word CZECH just because it is a shorter version of the word.  When * I use the word * I am not imply to older than 1993 prior to the split to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, or to the other advent of the Czech Republic I would refer to it as Czech.    I was just being *lazy* here and typed Czech rather than Czechoslovakian.... :spls:

So should one watch how they use the word Czech here in the posts as for meaning:

a) Post era,
b) Present era.......or
c) ....... Just lazy at spelling  :24:


Also IMHO, the finish on my piece here has a kinda *Satin* look to the glass rather than that shiny glass look.  Does that make any difference?  The froggie thing does have some blemishes on it, and looks to be older....as the froggie thing is not in very fine condition, but I guess it could be in worst shape too.

No need to go hypercorrect in these things. Czech was short for Czechoslovakia even before the split. This item is from the thirties - so feel free to call it Czech. It is also from bohemia, so feel free to call it Bohemian.
