BIG Uranium Green Charger
« on: November 08, 2011, 11:59:30 AM »
I bought this big Uranium charger at the weekend.  It's 14 inches in diameter (36 cm) and has a fair amount of wear on the underside.  It's beautifully cut and etched, and it glows like mad under UV!  8)

Anyone any idea of its age, who might have made it, or where?

Sorry, no can do, Christine!  I need it!  ;)  ;D

And woo hoo!  It's just been identified by Dave Peterson (Mr Vaseline Glass) on Michelle's Facebook group, JCC Glass!  It's by Pairpoint, and the design is called 'Colias'   :D  Well done, and many thanks, Dave  :hiclp: (and Michelle  ;) )

I wish I could, Julie  Sadly, I don't seem able to get the lighting and / or camera settings right!  :pb: I only have a little UV torch, which doesn't light things up enough to get a good photo.  Anyone got any tips on how I could get a decent picture under UV with the primitive set-up I currently have at my disposal?   :spls:

Its a #395 blank that was made in six different diameters...the largest being 16". There are actually a couple of pictures of yours in Marion Frost's Essence of Pairpoint reference. Nice piece in a very popular engraving/cutting that rates a 5 out of 5. Ken

There was some discussion of taking pics here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,42697.0.html

Thanks, Julie  That thread is really useful!   I've tried most of things over time but I have come to the conclusion that I just haven't got a powerful enough UV light source.  I only have a little torch which I use when 'shopping' for Uranium glass   ;)  However, I think I might have to have another try using some of the hints and tips in that thread!   :D

OK, we've been trying to get a decent picture of this charger under UV, and it seems we can get either the glow or in focus, but not both!  LOL!  However, it was fun trying (very cosy in the downstairs loo with the light off  ;) ;D

Anyway, I'm afraid this is the best we've managed so far  ::)

 :hiclp:

You'll have to get yourself a big light - if you do, you'll be able to turn out all the lights in your "Audrey" rooms and see them all glow at once as well as be able to enjoy this wonderful beast.

(But then you would have to find another excuse for getting cosy in the loo in the dark!)
