Hi,

I think I do know which factory made this intaglio weight. It is a late 19th century moulded Baccarat paperweight. I know this because an article was published recently by Erhard Maroschek and Alan Thornton in the PCC newsletter about two other moulded Baccarat weights (one with a bee and the other with a lion). To support their Baccarat attribution, they reproduce the page of the Baccarat catalogue for 1885 where the two weights appear with their reference number. Now as luck has it, your cherub weight is also included on the same page. Depending on its size (i.e. length) it is either n. 4864 A (11 cm) or 4865 A (12.5 cm).

A nice weight, indeed.

Sophie, I hate to trouble you, but would you be able to provide me the date or month of that particular newsletter? I would like to reference it. Thank you again for your help.

I do not have the newsletter with me but I think that it was the summer issue (i.e. August 2011). KevinH, Tropdevin or Derek (to cite but a few) will be able to confirm it.

Yes the PCC Newsletter is No. 106, August 2011.

Both versions of the weight are illustrated in the Baccarat catalogue page with the cherub reclining.
