Help with 2 signed fish from sweden
« on: November 12, 2011, 08:06:42 PM »
Can anyone give me some information on my 2 fish. The biggest one is 11 inches long and 6 inches tall on the bottom it says Marcolin Sweden with some numbers. The smaller one is 8 inches long and 4 inches tall with what looks like F K than maybe a name than Sweden and some numbers on the bottom. Thanks for any help you can give me.

You've pretty well summed up piece. I would expect that that the FK would be FM, to indicate that it was made by the Marcolin brothers, who moved from Murano to Sweden and opened a furnace there. The numbers are production numbers, which I can't help you with. If you Google Marcolin, FM, or FM Ronneby (Ronneby was the location), or FM Kontsglas, you'll find a wide variety of their products, often animals. You have quite a large pair.

Yes it is FM Ronneby, FM = Färe Marcolin Färe being Marcolin's wife's name.......
The numbers are the model number and the size.
Ronneby is the town in Sweden where they were made.  There are a lot of wonderful threads on the board with this info.....I will find a couple for you and put the links here for you.

Thanks for the reply. Are they now making glass in Italy? Also can anyone give me an idea of the value of the two fish, I just want to know if I paid a fair price. Thanks.

Here's a thread with lots of info on FM. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,18160.0.html

Value is hard to define, even if you're an Marcolin expert, which I'm not.  If you check eBay, for example, you'll see a very wide range of prices.  As these are larger and use one of the more interesting techniques (at least to me), I'd say you'd find them at the high end of the relative scale.
