Walther Sussex Clock, but which one??
« on: November 16, 2011, 09:03:22 AM »
Hi there

Here I have 2 clocks, both are about the same pattern apart from one is bigger than the other. I first bought the blue glass clock on ebay about a year ago, being described as Walther Sussex Clock and just recently, I acquired the clear glass clock (thinking that i might use the clock face for my other clocks (with rusty bits) in my collection. I then looked at the 1936 Walther catalogue, and compared the two clocks with the one shown in the catalogue.....It looks to me that the clear glass clock is more likely to be the Sussex clock than the smaller one in blue. It is the same size like the Meteor clock made by Walther.

So my question is, did Walther make 2 Sussex clocks - Large and smaller size ?? or the smaller one isn't a Walther clock?

Any info and comment is much appreciated.

Cheers and thanking all in advance!
Brenton

Brenton, just revisiting this after your other post about clocks today (clocks are an interest alongside my trinket sets!) - anyhow, looking at the 1937 Walther catalogue, it seems the large clock is Sussex, and the smaller one is Diamante. Measurements may confirm this for you if you can check them.

Sussex is given as 170 x 117 mm
Diamante is given as 160 x 90 mm

Foreign usually means Germany or Japan - i.e. countries which we were not best of friends with at the time.

Hi Rex

The clear one looks a bit like a "Meteor" clock also by Walther. Need a clearer picture of the pattern though :)

Cheers..Brenton
