Fluhli - Flühli Glass
« on: December 03, 2011, 05:10:09 PM »
In an earlier thread on Glasi Hergiswil I had promised some info on Flühli-Glas - here we go.

Brothers Josef, Peter and Michael Siegwart from Windberg (Black Forest in Germany) moved in 1723 to the Entlebuch region in canton Lucerne, Switzerland. They set up several glassworks in the region, several within the parish of Flühli - hence the name "Flühli-Glas". The last of them closed in 1869: by this time much of the production had moved to Hergiswil - where the modern "Glasi" is still situated. So it is no surprise that the Glasi Museum today exhibits the most extensive collection worldwide (their own statement) of Flühli Glass. Unfortunately most of the relevant images have not survived the re-design of the web page ... which is why they are reproduced here (with the owners' permission) with a few of my own images added:

My favourite items are the "Schnapshund" glass liquor bottle dogs:

Wow! Thanks Wolf......what a collection....if we go to Switzerland I will definately make a beeline for that lot! I love the little sheep as well.
