Kosta Cube Paperweight...year of Manufacture?
« on: December 21, 2011, 03:49:54 AM »
I have a Cube shaped weight by Mona Morales Schildt, when at Kosta Glass. I know she was at Kosta between 1958 and 1970. Can anyone nail the date of manufacture from the number on the weight?

The year of design was 1958. The first number is the form of glass (ppw), and the second two numbers the year of design. The year of manufacturer must be 1974 or later, the year the five numbered code was introduced.

Thanks for that. Were designs continued to be manufactured after the designer left the company.

Yes, they were, although I believe that practice stopped in the late 1980's.

Kosta Codes ... year of design
« Reply #5 on: December 08, 2015, 02:38:30 PM »
Let me take that up again: the 5 digit coding system was introduced in 1974 and was also adapted retrospectively for earlier years (see 95833 above - designed in 1958). How far back was this "backdating" done?

Example: Vicke Lindstrand worked at Kosta from 1950 - so his Hedgehog was designed after 1950 (I guess). This hedgehog can be found online with two different codes: LG329 (LG for Lindstrand engraved glass) and 92329. In this case "23" obviously does not indicate the year of design (it was not until 1928 when Lindstrand started at Orrefors). On the other hand the last three digits (329) are identical - obviously the old code was transferred to the new code. Can anyone explain the principle and since when it was applied?
