Is this vase an Isle of Man, or an Isle of Wight?
« on: December 22, 2011, 06:04:09 AM »
Having recently seen a thread by Chris Cooper of a labelled Island Glass vase from the Isle of Man, I strongly suspect this is too - mainly due to that blue iridescence.

Can the IOW/IOM experts give me a verdict please.

Start using the term expert and many people with some knowledge will run in the other direction. Way too loaded.

Personally I can't abide Azurene and am only interested in what came before at Isle of Wight Studio Glass.

Your example has a ground and polished rim so I suspect it is not IoWSG, Alum Bay is one of many other possibilities.

How big is it?

John

It is 13cms tall and around 8cms at the fattest point.

It's absolutely not IoWSG - but I don't know what it is at all, Ross, sorry.

The link to the thread.......

Includes an interesting? link (just in case anyone missed it) to a labelled Island glass Isle of Man Whitefriars style bark vase with a pontil mark blob of glass in the form of a Celtic knot.

I have to agree with Sue -- not IOW. I have to confess ignorance of what it might be too!
