Heavy Art Deco Faceted Perfume Bottle. Czech? Any ideas?
« on: March 09, 2006, 03:34:17 PM »
Hi,

A heavy, chunky, faceted glass perfume bottle 4" (10) wide x 5" (12.5cm) tall to the top of the stopper. Simply oozes Art Deco and has a pale lemon (not vaseline) colour. Any ideas for an ID?

(yes I will clean it!)

:: Bumpity-bump :: :D

As can be seen, the 'applicator' is a glass rod attached to the stopper.

Most likely Czech panel cut, nice piece if pristine. I try to avoid panel cut items - one look and there is a corner missing  :(

I've got a similar bottle in blue - slightly different shape, but similar in style, I mean  :oops:  http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1237

Is it likely to be same maker, or just same era?   :?

I agree, and sometimes the damage is not obvious with so many 'pointy-out bits'. No real substantial damage here... but there's a slight bruise on one corner of the stopper and a couple of fleabites. Not pristine though.

What did surprise me though is that lack of a uranium glow! 8)

Leni: yes, there are similarities to yours, so might be attributable to the same company. I'll include the word 'Czech' in the title and see if Marcus pops up

Abracadabra.....
Could well be Czech as large quantities of the panel cut items originated there. Citrine, a common colour. Who made it, could be very difficult as many raffineries bought in blanks from elsewhere.

Nothing similar in Novy, and sadly don't yet have a copy of Lnenickova & Novy's, "Schranky Vuni: Ceske Toaletni Sklo".

regards,

Marcus

It's not shown in Lnenickova & Novy's, "Schranky Vuni: Ceske Toaletni Sklo" but that's not to say it's not Czech as the book only covers a tiny fraction of Czech toilet set output.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd
