Shirley Elford, of Hamilton, Ontario, died aged 68, of ovarian cancer in November 2011. Shirley is best known for her glass angels, of which she created over 4,000 during her lifetime.

Thank you Anne for posting this info here too.

I hope one keeps us informed on this story to see just how far her Angels are, and the story behind them (like the article) is asking people to write about.  Hope there is more info down the road.
