Very interesting!
I'm surprised at my reaction here. I really would love a Willie Manson "Bat Cave" weight, and there's one there (only 5 bats, but not overly expensive).... but it's got a JD cane in it. I don't want a JD cane in "my" Bat Cave weight, it spoils it completely - both visually and for the irritation factor of having the wrong artist featured in such an obvious way. I'm not remotely interested in buying it. The same goes for the Salamander one.

Now that IS a bit cheeky!

I love the bat cave weights (I have two - one even with a little personalised sign in it - special service offered by Willie) and both the lampwork and the overall weight are wholly WM's design (as far as I know).  It's one of his most attractive designs.  Personally, I'm aiming for  a shelf full of them. Think that would be impressive!

Is it this weight though?

I can't make out the cane very well, but it looks like one of WM's to me!

Well there are only 50. My brother has the 49er, Willie's wife the 50er. You're unlikely to get your mitts on either of them.
My brother's does not have the JD cane in it. And as you say, it's all Willie's design.

It's definitely a JD cane in the Bat Cave. I can't make out the Salamander one so well, but it still has the colours of the JD one.

I don't think I'm being remotely cheeky. Just reporting my reaction to a bit of art which, for me, has been completely spoiled. My reaction to art is personal and a gut thing. The colours of the cane spoil it, the shape of the cane is incongruous with the theme - as is the lettering. And it's not even the artist's initials.

Hi Sue,

It is a willie manson cane in the bat cave (although I agree with you the colours are unfortunate). If you enlarge picture 4 it shows the wm lettering clearly and reveals willie manson's signature on the base, too...

The salamander weight also has a wm signature cane. I really like its rock like look/overlay and there the green signature cane works.

I'm afraid I still don't like it, and I don't think it fits in the weight at all.

Why can't they shove these ugly bits in the base?  :thud:

I've written to the seller to ask whose initials are in the canes.
I don't understand why they didn't make it clear in their description. It does seem to be of critical importance.

But even if it turns out to be a WM cane in the bat cave, I'm afraid I'm still really put off by it.

BTW Sue, I was referring to being cheeky if  a JD cane was in the Batcave - not you for not liking it!!

PS  I agree with the look of it - the colour of the cane really stands out.....

Or with asking questions.  ;D
The seller has replied to me and tells me that both the Bat Cave and the Salamanders contain WM canes.

I'm surprised. I would have thought he'd have placed the canes far more discretely.  :thud:

And he might have used a less conspicuous colour (what's wrong with black) ;)

Thanks for asking the seller.

You mentioned the number of bats, do you know the maximum bats that Willie Manson has encased in a single cave weight?
