Maker of tapered vase please?
« on: March 10, 2006, 07:52:36 PM »
I have this vase that tapers off at the top, so you can't get many flowers in. The manager of a trendy restaurant gave it to me in 1998 because I loved the orchids that were in it and I wanted to take them home.  :P

Not sure you'll get an answer to this one Simone.  It could be made by so many companies....it could even be Ikea!   :?

Hi Max,

I don't think it's Ikea because it's too much of an upmarket place, and even the soap in the loo is a designer make. I should have taken one of their nice ashtrays too...

Ikea glass doesn't mean it's not a decently made piece of glass.  It's just not a 'designer' or recognised company's piece of glass.

LSA glass could be classed as 'just Polish glass' and yet it sells for a premium.

could well be a Krosno piece and I concur with Max that Ikea sells very similar items which they have produced to their own specifications in Hungary.
Krosno is very active in the higher quality market these days, I was at a glass studio the other day where they do engraving and sandblasting and they had dozens of Krosno blanks lined up. "Fourty years of devoted service to the council and all I got was this Krosno vase...."

I doubt that the orchids cost more than the vase in Nobu. The meal cost enough at over £100 a head - without any dessert!

Well, David Collins designed the restaurant, so I'll try to remember to ask him where  the vase came from the next time I see him, but I still think orchids were probably more expensive than the vase..after all they were probably amazing and it was them that you admired, not the vase,  wasn't it?!
