Benny Motzfeldt bowl
« on: February 13, 2012, 02:44:51 PM »
Hello everyone
The attached pics show a Benny Motzfeldt bowl I was given in 1996.
I'd like to sell but have no idea of a guide price.
Can anyone help please?

Hi, that's a gorgeous bowl and lovely pics, however it would be helpful if your pics blew up a little further so the detail can be seen.
How big is the bowl please?
It appears to be a similar decor the other one you have posted about.
How are they signed on the base?

Both bowls are beautiful and are in perfect condition.

The 'round' shaped bowl measures 13cm wide(diameter of top) and 10cm high.

The other (tulip shape?) measures 22cm wide (diameter of top and 9cm high.

Will take and post the markings in a few mins :-)

We need pictures of the base - how it's finished off and whether or not it is signed or marked in any way.
If it has been "signed" by Benny herself, this will add a good bit to its value.

Did I say, "Hi and welcome" earlier? I was looking at your Benny shaped vase - but it didn't look anything like her  at all!

Hi:

I don't see the bowl in any of the books I have, but not surprising as there really aren't many photographs in books of Motzfeldt's work. She's very collectible, particularly in Norway obviously. It does make a difference whether the pieces were made for Plus (often marked with + sign) or Randsfjordglass, which is why a picture of the base is important. Very nice bowls, btw.

Plus is usually preferable, at least to me.  As usual price is hard (and not many of us on the GMB ever want to go there. Motzfedt is very collectible. Still, it depends where you sell it. eBay would probably be the lowest price and you can get some idea of prices there by searching for Motzfeldt in glass, going to advanced search and then checking "completed" to see what they've sold for. I would think that bowls like this would clear a minimum of 70 pounds, and I would expect to pay around 100 pounds to get one of these on eBay.  But it's really variable, because some Motzfeldt goes higher and some goes lower, depending on what the individual collectors have and want. Selling through retail is still highly variable, depending on where you're located and what the local antique stores are like.

Sorry to be so vague. Perhaps somebody else is prepared to be more specific.

Good luck.

David

I agree too.
The design is not one illustrated in the '84 Benny Motzfeldt book, but Plus is in my book, a preferrable mark to Randsfjordglass, not that I have anything against Randsfjordglass - I have a few *beautiful* bits.
I love Benny's work.
